Diabetes occurs when the pancreas fail to prepare enough or any of the hormone insulin. This causes the glucose level in the blood to rise up. There are generally two main forms of diabetes. Type 1 (Diabetes insipidus) occurs due to inadequate secretion of anti-diuretic hormone in the body. People suffering from this type require daily injections of insulin. Type 2 (Diabetes mellitus) is a more common form and occurs due to malfunctioning of the pancreas.

Diabetes mellitus can lead to increased risk of high blood glucose level, excessive drinking, excessive urination, visual disability, excessive eating, tiredness, weight loss, paralysis, eczema, gangrene and itching in the groin. However, in some individuals this condition may well be totally asymptomatic. Kitchen Remedies for Diabetes!
  • A tbsp of amla fruit juice, mixed in a cup of fresh bitter gourd juice, can be taken daily to beat diabetes.
  • Have 2 tsp of powdered fenugreek seeds daily with milk.
  • Mix 1/2 tsp each of bay leaves powder and turmeric rhizome powder in a tbsp of Aloe vera gel. Have this mixture twice a day before breakfast and dinner.
  • Consume 5-10 g of powdered jamun seeds every morning. It directly works on the pancreas and controls sugar.
  • Add 3 tbsp of of cinnamon powder to a liter of boiling water. Simmer for 20 minutes  and strain the mixture. Have this drink daily to maintain glucose levels.
  • Eat two cloves of garlic with water every morning on an empty stomach to keep a check on sugar levels.
  • Drink a cup of bitter gourd juice every morning. Including bitter gourd in your daily diet is said to reduce blood sugar levels.

Diabetics must keep a check on carbohydrate consumption and refined sugars should be eaten in moderation. Dietary intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grain pulses should be increased. Alcohol consumption must be in moderation & smoking should be avoided in any form.

A moderate and regular exercise is a must for diabetics. Brisk walk, cycling, jogging and swimming are quite beneficial in burning unwanted calories and cutting down sugar levels. Diabetes can be managed well with yoga too. Practising Yogasanas like Trikonasana (triangle pose), Ardha matsyendrasana (half spinal twist), Dhanurasana (bow pose), Merudandasana (spinal twist), Kati chakrasana (waist rotating pose) and Naukasana (boat pose) regularly impacts the endocrine system and body metabolism.
