Piles (or Hemorrhoids) is a varicose condition of the veins, which leads to pain in the anal region while passing stools. In some cases, when the condition is severe (as in internal piles), bleeding can also occur. The main causes of piles are sedentary lifestyle, strenuous work, persistent constipation due to poor dietary habits, stress and anxiety, obesity, pregnancy & heredity. Find here some natural kitchen remedies for seeking relief from piles:

Natural Remedies for Piles
  • To treat piles, take 2 tsp of powdered mango seeds with honey twice daily.
  • Have 2 tsp of triphala (mixture of Terminalia chebula, Terminalia bellirica Emblica officinalis) powder with lukewarm water before going to bed.
  • Drinking a glass of wheatgrass juice daily is beneficial for treating piles.
  • Drinking a glass of amla (Indian gooseberry) fruit juice on an empty stomach is also said to relieve hemorrhoids.
  • Eating a handful of black plum with salt in the morning on an empty stomach is another remedy for bleeding piles.
  • Having ½ a cup of radish juice with a pinch of salt is beneficial remedy for hemorrhoids  Take this twice daily for a month. Application of a paste of radish grounded in milk at the site is beneficial in relieving pain and swelling due to piles.
  • Mix a tsp of black cumin seeds with a tsp of unroasted black cumin seeds. Powder them and take ½ tsp of the same with water daily.
  • Take a handful of sesame seeds and boil in ½ liter of water. When the water reduces to 1/3rd, add a tsp of butter and have it once daily. To ease the symptoms, poultice made of sesame seeds can also be applied externally on the piles.
  • Drinking Aloe vera juice for about 15 days is also known to give relief from piles.
  • For bleeding piles, take a raw bael fruit (Aegle marmelos) and roast its pulp. Mix the same with equal amounts of jaggery and have it twice daily.
  • Mix half a tsp of ginger juice with 1 tsp lemon juice along with ½ tsp of mint juice. Add honey to taste and take it twice daily. 
  • Boil a tsp of powdered fenugreek seeds in a glass of water. Take it with honey twice daily.
  • One of the useful kitchen remedies to treat piles is to crush and extract out the juice of bitter gourd leaves. Add about 3 tsp in a glassful of buttermilk &have it every morning on an empty stomach at least for a month.
  • Drinking a glass of buttermilk twice daily, with ½ tsp of turmeric powder or with rock salt and black pepper is known to ease the pain due to hemorrhoids.
  • To cure hemorrhoids, administer 10 ml of onion juice with sugar for a week. 

Chronic constipation is the basic cause of piles. Therefore, a sufferer should consume a diet rich in fibers including fresh fruits, vegetables, & pulses such as beans, peas and lentils. Yogurt should be taken in good quantities as it improves bowel movement. 

Drinking plenty of water, fruit juices and butter milk everyday is good for those suffering from piles. Cut down on alcohol as well as aerated and caffeine containing drinks. Kitchen Remedies for Nausea & Vomiting!


Vomiting is a biological defense mechanism, which refers to the forceful oral expulsion of stomach contents. It is multifactorial in origin and can be caused due to spinning too fast on a ride, motion sickness, certain drugs, gastroenteritis, surgery, pregnancy, disgusting sights & smells, etc. 
It includes symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, headache, and other symptoms depending on the reason causing vomiting. Other symptoms may be an elevation in the heart beat or change in the body temperature. 
In this post, learn about some effective natural herbal remedies to treat nausea and vomiting:
  • Boil equal quantities of powdered fennel seeds and dried mint leaves in water till it remains ¼ . Take this decoction thrice daily.
  • Clove bud & fennel seeds masticated with betel leaf also provides relief from the sensation of vomiting.
  • To get relief of nausea and vomiting, one can slowly chew 1-2 cardamoms. A decoction can also be prepared by boiling cardamom with mint leaves. Add honey to taste and administer small quantities at regular intervals.
  • Prepare a mixture of ½ tsp ginger juice, 1 tsp mint juice, 1 tsp lemon juice with a tsp of honey and give to the patient for quick relief.
  • Extract juice from fresh young leaves of jamun and administer 10-20 ml of the same to the sufferer.
  • A decoction prepared by boiling equal parts of fennel and thyme seeds is beneficial for small babies in treating vomiting and indigestion.
  • Prepare a lemon drink with added sugar and rock salt. Administer it to the patient to provide him quick relief from nausea and vomiting. One may also lick a piece of lemon for instant relief. This is quite useful during the nausea associated with travelling.
  • To the freshly extracted basil juice, add equal proportions of mint and ginger juice and administer to the sufferer.
  • To control persistent vomiting, add 5-6 drops of neem leaves juice to a glass of warm milk & drink. 
  • Pound mint leaves and onion together & make a paste. Take 1-2 tsp of the paste thrice daily.
To cover up loss of body fluids during vomiting, one should drink water in moderate quantities from time to time. One should also avoid milk and milk products as vomiting makes body lactose intolerant. Steamed vegetables and vegetable soups in diet should be preferred over heavy meals. Spicy, acidic & high fat content foods can worsen the situation; therefore one should not include such foods in diet. Eating rice, oats, bananas, salads in the diet will provide relief from the symptoms.

  • Add 3 tbsp of of cinnamon powder to a liter of boiling water. Simmer for 20 minutes  and strain the mixture. Have this drink daily to maintain glucose levels.

  • For tonsillitis, gargle with decoction prepared by boiling the bark of the acacia tree.
  • Dissolve powdered alum (phitkari) in water and use the same as a gargle for tonsillitis.
  • Mix 1 tsp each of vacha (Acorus calamus) & mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra) powder with honey and take thrice daily.
  • Boil approx 12-15 g of banafsha (Viola odorata) flowers in 50 ml milk. Take warm twice a day. The filtered residue can be heated and tied around the throat as a poultice at night.
  • To get relief from the symptoms of tonsillitis, chamomile tea along with honey and lemon is a great remedy.
  • Prepare a gargle by simmering 2 tbsp of fenugreek seeds for half an hour in a litre of water. For beneficial results use it for gargle twice daily.
  • Take honey regularly for preventing as well as curing tonsillitis. It can also be taken with a glass of warm milk to soothe the throat.
  • Prepare a decoction by boiling a 5-6 leaves of basil with ginger rhizome and 2-3 cloves. Take 20 ml of the same with honey thrice daily.
  • The milk from raw papaya can be applied on the inflamed tonsils to get relief.Prepare black tea and add some salt to it. Use it as a gargle to get relief from the ailment.
  • Prepare a paste by boiling figs in water and apply externally on the throat area to provide a soothing effect.
  • Gargling with water boiled with basil leaves can provide relief from tonsillitis .

Improve Lactation via Common Kitchen Remedies!


The experience of breastfeeding is special for many reasons! It develops the joyful bonding between the mother and the baby and holds lots of health benefits for both. It is the primary source of nourishment to a newborn before the baby is able to eat other foods. Mother's milk is light and easy to digest & provides protection to the baby against infections and aids in healthy mental & physical development. 

But at times, mothers face the problem of low breast milk production. This may be due to stress, inadequate sleep or rest, unhealthy diet, intake of excess coffee, tea or alcohol, etc. However, certain food supplements and herbs are known to assist breast milk production without any side effects. 

Find here some beneficial natural kitchen remedies to improve milk production in lactating mothers.
  • To improve lactation, nursing mothers can try this remedy. Boil about 150 g of drumstick leaves in water with salt. Drain the water and eat the leaves with clarified butter.
  • Add 2 tsp of fennel seeds to 200 ml of boiling water. Cover and let it stand for 15-20 minutes. A cup of strained water can be administered to nursing mother thrice daily with honey.
  • Boil 8-10 crushed basil leaves in a cup of water & simmer for 5-10 minutes. Sieve and add honey or sugar to taste. Breastfeeding mothers should have 1-2 cups daily.
  • Consuming about 1-2 g of fenugreek twice daily is beneficial in enhancing milk in nursing mothers.
  • Soak ½ cup of barley grains overnight. Next morning, boil the same in ½ liter of water with a tsp of fennel seeds. Simmer for 10 minutes on low flame, remove and allow it to stand for another 10 minutes. Strain and drink the water with a tsp honey all through the day.
  • Including garlic in diet daily is said to be beneficial in boosting milk production in feeding mothers. Another remedy is to add finely grate 2-3 garlic cloves in a cup of water till water is reduced to ¼. Now, boil the same in a glass of milk & simmer. Add honey to taste & administer the same to nursing mother.
  • Roast about 200 g of dalia / crushed wheat till they turn brownish & aromatic. Boil about ½ l of water in a pressure cooker & transfer dalia with added ¼ tsp turmeric powder & salt to taste. Cover the lid and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. Open the lid after 5 minutes. Serve with hot milk and added sugar.
  • Boil a tbsp each of carom & fennel seeds in a liter of water. Cook the mixture for another 10 minutes and strain. To stimulate milk flow, sip this water throughout the day.
  • Eating a bowl of oatmeal with milk twice daily is helpful in the breast milk production.
  • Soak 4-5 almonds overnight & grind them with some black pepper to make a paste. Heat about ½ tsp of clarified butter in a pan & fry the paste till it turns golden brown. Now, add a glass of milk to the paste and stir. Bring mixture to boil and drink hot with sugar.
  • Boil a tbsp of cumin seeds and let the mixture stand for another 15 minutes. Take sips of this drink all through the day.
